Why Love Dies?

Love is a strange feeling that is hard to describe, and no one can really give love a proper definition, but when you fall in love, you’ll know it inside. Love is exhilarating but why that spark can eventually die down for some couples?

I believe love can flourish if we nurture it, but it can also be killed for several reasons. I would like to share with you my thoughts on why love dies in a relationship.

  1. Cheating
  • No matter who does it or for what reasons, cheating is going to seriously impact the relationship. Some couples will work to fix the broken relationship, but to some, the affairs end the love.
  1. Lack of Trust
  • When trust is constantly violated, love will die eventually. Our partner needs to count on our words consistently without doubts. If we don’t have integrity in both actions and words, love will not flourish but die eventually.
  1. Lack of Respect
  • Respect is a cornerstone of all relationships. If our values and beliefs are not respected, love will eventually erode.
  1. Lack of Emotional Support
  • Giving and receiving emotional support will deepen love. Being in a supportive relationship brings us closer to our partner and helps us establish deeper intimacy.
  1. Incompatible Goals
  • Conflicts and arguments arise when you and your partner have mutually exclusive goals and are always on different paths. Constant conflicts and arguments are exhausting and could end the love between you and your partner.
  1. Unrealistic Expectations
  • Wishing your partner to be perfect, meeting all your needs, making them responsible for your happiness, and always being available when you are in distress are all unrealistic expectations and can be overwhelming for your partner and can lead to resentment. Resentment is a poison to relationships, it kills love.
  1. Possessiveness
  • If you always demand your partner’s total attention or love, they will feel overwhelmed and suffocated. Little by little, love will die down.
  1. Lack of Communication or Poor Communication
  • Communication between couples fosters love bonds. In a relationship, communication is the key to ensuring the growth and overall health of both partners. For love to flourish, it’s important for couples to be able to express their emotions so as to understand each other.

Final Thoughts

Love is not enough. You can’t just accept it and leave it. Love is like a plant; you need to keep on watering it and let the sunshine on it. It dies when you stop doing that.
